The lighting projector lenses “D” series

The lighting projector lenses “D”* series, (*drive the light) were developed by us at IODA SRL in collaboration with the National Institute of Astro Physics of Padua (INAF).

The accurate aspherical profile of the convex of the lens, together with the use of the polyurethane material REVO-01, enable the lenses “D” series to give maximum performance when used in systems with extended and patchy light sources such as C.O.B. Led (an acronym for “Chip On Board” or multiple Leds) or power Led, ensuring high luminous efficiency and excellent light distribution.

Lighting systems using lenses D series are used for outdoor lighting to enhance facades of churches, monuments and historic buildings, but also by those for indoor lighting to project light exactly on a specific area in warehouses, gyms, swimming pools and industrial halls.

In addition to the models available in stock, we at IODA SRL can create custom lenses according to specific customer requirements or in the case of retrofitting i.e. already made lighting systems, where the lens will have to fit in existing dimensional requirements (height, diameter, etc.).

The following D-series lens models are available in four different diameters: 30, 45, 55 and 70mm:

Interpreting lens codes is very easy! The code is divided into two parts; for example, D55 and AD45.

The first part is for the lens diameter, meaning the housing diameter (in example D55 indicates that the outer diameter is 55mm). The second part, (in the example AD45) indicates that the angular distribution (Angle Distribution) of the projected light is +/- 45°.

Angular distribution values are the result of tests performed by us at IODA SRL in our laboratory. (N.B. During testing, we set the distance between the light source and the lens base as a parameter of 5mm.)

An essential parameter to consider when designing a led-lens system is the relative positioning of the parts. The distance between the led and the lens is a parameter that determines the angular distribution of the application; the closer the led (or C.O.B.) is to the lens, the wider the angular distribution will be and vice versa.

In the image below, we have the two extremes of a hypothetical application: on the left the lens is very close to the led (angular projection with the maximum opening), while on the right the lens is placed at the focal distance (minimum angular projection).
